Air Niugini is the flag carrier of Papua New Guinea, established in the early 1970s at a time when the area was still under Australian rule. Today, Air Niugini operates a convenient domestic network that reaches previously inaccessible places. International routes include Hong Kong, Manila, Bali, Singapore, Brisbane, Sydney, Cairns, Honiara, Chuuk, Pohnpei, Port Vila and Nadi.
Air Niugini also has a versatile fleet, which includes larger aircraft like the Boeing 767 used for longer-range trans-Pacific flights. Dash-8 and other lighter aircraft operate charter and freight services, and service smaller airstrips on the airline’s domestic network.
Air Niugini currently holds a three-star Skytrax rating and is considered a major trade and tourism asset. As a destination, Papua New Guinea is especially popular for its many diving sites and WW2 relics. It is a cultural hot-spot with many different tribes and traditions.
Looking to the future, Air Niugini’s aim is to “provide a safe, reliable, cost-effective and profitable air operation while exceeding the expectations of [its] customers and stake holders”.
