Press Release: MIAT Subleases Oman Air’s only B737-700

On May 10, 2017, MIAT – Mongolian Airlines (OM) took delivery of its initial B737-700. The aircraft in question is A4O-BO (msn 33103) equipped in a two class configuration with 102 Economy and 12 Business Class seats. MIAT has subleased the Air Lease Corporation owned aircraft from Oman Air (WY) for a period of two years.
According to Mongolian News Agency ‘Montsame’, MIAT anticipates to operate the B737-700 aircraft on new routes, such as Ulaanbaatar-Busan (South Korea), which launched May 22, 2017. According to MIAT’s European ACMI sales partner Zela Aviation, additional new flights to Bangkok, Thailand, will commence in November.
MIAT already operates three B737-800s, alongside two B767-300(ER) wide-body aircraft. It currently serves Beijing Capital, Berlin Tegel, Frankfurt Int’l, Hong Kong Chek Lap Kok, Moscow Sheremetyevo, Osaka Kansai, Seoul Incheon, and Tokyo Narita.
With this sublease, Oman Air has ended B737-700 operations, given this was the Oman national carrier’s only B737-700 aircraft in its fleet. Its narrow-body fleet now consists of twenty four B737-800s, and five B737-900(ER’s). In addition, Oman Air is looking into subleasing two B737-800s, which are not currently required.
