Drukair Corporation Limited, operating as Drukair — Royal Bhutan Airlines, is the flag carrier of the Kingdom of Bhutan, headquartered in the western dzongkhag of Paro.
Founded in 1981, ten years after the kingdom began to open up from self-imposed isolation, and seven years after welcoming its first foreign visitors, the airline commenced operations in 1983 with flights from Kolkata to Paro utilizing Dornier Do 228 aircraft.

Thimphu is the capital city of Bhutan and Paro is the home base of Drukair.
Bhutan … is one of the few countries in the world to have negative carbon emissions. Sharing a 455km border with China as well as a 659 km border with India, at a mean elevation of 2,300 meters high, a population of just over 750,000.
Bhutan’s economy is largely driven by hydro-electric power, agriculture, and forestry. Bhutan’s acclaimed “Gross National Happiness” index prioritizes well-being over financial growth.
Bhutan’s estimated 2017 GDP is USD 2.31 billion, and Drukair’s 2017 revenue of USD 54.3 million highlights its importance to the country’s economy.
Drukair has a fleet of four aircraft: three A319 aircraft with 16 business and 102 economy seats and one ATR 42 with 48 economy seats.
The A319 aircraft serves Drukair’s 9 international destinations outside Bhutan while the ATR 42-500 serves the airline’s domestic and regional destinations. Recently, Drukair has signed a purchase agreement for an A320 NEO and an ATR 42-600. The ATR will join the existing fleet in July 2019 and the A320 NEO will join in Q1 of 2020.
