Norse commits to polar research and exploration

In November, Norse Atlantic Airways demonstrated its adaptability and operational excellence by completing its second charter to Antarctica for scientific research, following its historic first landing on the continent the previous year.

The Boeing 787 Dreamliner, named ‘Everglades,’ successfully transported 10.5 tons of research equipment and scientists for the Norwegian Polar Institute. The journey from Oslo included a stop in Cape Town to and from the Troll Airfield.

A major display of the airline’s ethos of adventure and supporting important missions beyond commercial flying, the trip has also highlighted the Dreamliner’s range, fuel efficiency, and cargo capacity, enabling the airline to complete a round-trip from Cape Town to Antarctica without refuelling.

Norse Atlantic Airways will complete four charters supporting scientific research in Antarctica. Mette Birkedahl, Director of Charter and ACMI at Norse Atlantic Airways, concluded: “Returning to Antarctica with our Dreamliner reaffirms Norse Atlantic’s ability to handle complex logistical operations. We’re proud to demonstrate the capabilities and efficiency of our aircraft and operational excellence of the Norse Atlantic charter team, from meticulous planning to precise execution, demonstrating our role as a trusted partner for missions to even the most remote destinations.”
