Loganair named Sustainable Airline of the Year 2024
Loganair has been named the Sustainable Airline of the Year for 2024 by the European Regional Airline Association (ERA), a prestigious award that highlights the airline’s commitment to sustainability in the aviation industry and that will ultimately help customers to contribute positively to global environmental efforts.
The accolade was presented during a formal awards ceremony in October at the ERA’s General Assembly. As the largest regional airline in the UK, Loganair has demonstrated exceptional leadership in implementing eco-friendly initiatives.
Some of Loganair’s initiatives include a partnership with Cranfield Aerospace Solutions to transition its Britten Norman Islander aircraft, which services inter-island routes in Orkney, to hydrogen cell power – aiming for the first zero-emission passenger flights worldwide.
Loganair also achieved its first all-electric turnaround at Stornoway Airport and is replacing over 100 pieces of ground service equipment to further cut emissions. Then, the airline is also working with the UK Met Office to gather critical data on non-CO2 emissions that the partners hope will enhance understanding of aviation’s environmental impact.
Luke Farajallah, CEO, Loganair, said: “We are committed to introducing low and zero emissions flights where we can throughout our network and hope to offer the first such route by the end of the decade.”
