Ambitious growth plans are being pursued by Rwanda’s national airline RwandAir. Part of the plan is adding a Cape Town-Harare route in the near future, advises Thembela Dladla, the airline’s Country Manager in South Africa.

Guangzhou in China, New York, Yaoundé in Cameroon and Abuja in Nigeria will also be added to the RwandAir network soon, which has recently been expanded with flights between Johannesburg and Lusaka, Kigali and Harare, and services to Mumbai. The airline has also set up a West African hub in Contonou, Benin, which services Dakar, Libreville and Bamako among other points.
To facilitate extra capacity, the carrier recently took delivery of its first A330-200/300, as well as additional Boeing 737-800 Next Generation aircraft with full on-board connectivity, including roaming services and Wi-Fi.
A new international airport, Bugesera, is being built just outside Kigali to better serve the growing passenger numbers. Construction began in September last year, and is scheduled for completion in 2019.
